How do I set the optimal price on eMAG?
The optimal price on eMAG does not mean the lowest possible price, but a competitive price that protects your profit margin. The correct calculation considers competitor prices, shipping, commission and your minimum acceptable margin. Price matters for your offer’s position, but it does not guarantee a Buy Box or a sale.
Short answer
- You find the total prices (price plus shipping) of competitors for the same product.
- You calculate your cost threshold: cost of goods, eMAG commission, shipping and minimum profit.
- The optimal price is a competitive price against the market, but never below that threshold.
- You re-evaluate the price when competitors change their offers; 4pricing can calculate a recommended price, which you apply yourself.
How to calculate the optimal price step by step
- Identify the sellers offering the same product and note their total price: product price plus delivery cost.
- Calculate your cost threshold: purchase cost, plus the eMAG commission for your category, plus delivery, plus your minimum margin.
- Choose a strategy: slightly below the lowest price, aligned with the median, or margin over cost.
- If the resulting price is above your threshold, you can set it; if below, do not lower it — you will lose money.
- Revisit the calculation when an important competitor changes price.
What the cost threshold is made of
The cost threshold is the sum of the expenses you must cover before profit. The eMAG commission differs by category, so check it in your own contract; do not use a general figure. If in 4pricing you enter your full cost (including commission and delivery), the calculated cost floor starts from it.
The elements of the cost threshold and their role
| Calculation item | Role |
|---|---|
| Purchase cost | The base of the threshold. |
| eMAG commission | Depends on the category; take it from your contract. |
| Delivery | Adds to your cost and enters the total price seen by the customer. |
| Minimum margin | The profit below which you never go. |
| Chosen price | A competitive price above the threshold, with no guarantee of winning. |
Common mistakes
- Not including the eMAG commission in your cost threshold calculation.
- Copying a competitor’s price without checking if it is below your margin.
- Updating price rarely — competition can change prices at any time.
How 4pricing helps
4pricing.net calculates a recommended price for each group (your product plus the competitors you add by link), based on your chosen strategy — undercut the lowest price (1 % by default), match the competitors’ median, or margin over cost (the default minimum margin is 5 %) — and the rounding you configure (none, .99, .90 or whole number). The recommendation never goes below your cost floor, and the comparison also shows a verdict per group. The decision stays with you: the recommended price is applied after your approval (in the panel or through the API) and goes to your system through a signed webhook or directly to shops built on 4buildsite and 4shopy; nothing is written to eMAG — updating the price there is done by you or by your system. Checks run on a schedule (every 6 hours by default), not in real time.
