How to win the eMAG Buy Box in 2026: price is not the only factor

The eMAG Buy Box is the position that decides which seller appears on the main 'Add to cart' button on a multi-seller listing, and most orders on that listing usually go through it. Many sellers believe the only way to win it is to have the lowest price — and cut their margin to zero to be first. In reality, eMAG does not publish its exact criteria, but several factors are expected to matter, and price is just one of them.

What is the eMAG Buy Box and why it matters

When multiple sellers sell the same product on eMAG Marketplace, the product page displays a single main 'Add to cart' button. The seller displayed on that button has the Buy Box. The remaining sellers are listed in the 'Offers from other sellers' section — visible, but accessed by a much smaller share of buyers. The seller holding the Buy Box usually receives most of the orders on that listing; exactly how many differs from product to product and there is no official figure.

Ranking factors in the Buy Box algorithm

  • Total price (including delivery): usually the factor with the most direct impact. The customer sees the final price reaching them, not just the shelf price.
  • Seller feedback score: the average of customer reviews. A score weaker than your competitors can put you at a disadvantage.
  • Delivery SLA: how often you deliver within the promised timeframe. Systematic delays can weigh against you.
  • Available stock: a seller with no stock or limited stock is disadvantaged even if they have the lowest price.
  • Return and complaint rate: frequent returns or unresolved complaints can lower your chances of getting the Buy Box.

What eMAG may look at for each ranking factor (the exact criteria are not public)

FactorWhat eMAG may look at
Total price with deliveryThe final price reaching the customer, not the shelf price.
Feedback scoreAverage customer reviews; a score weaker than your competitors can set you back.
Delivery SLAHow often you deliver on time; systematic delays can weigh against you.
Available stockWithout stock you lose out even with the lowest price.
Returns and complaintsFrequent returns or unresolved complaints can lower your chances.

How much does price matter vs other factors

A seller with good feedback, on-time deliveries and solid stock may have a chance of getting the Buy Box even at a slightly higher price than the cheapest competitor with weaker performance. This is an opportunity for sellers who invest in operations quality: you do not necessarily need to be the cheapest, you need the best overall package. Price usually remains a strong factor, however — large gaps versus the cheapest are hard to compensate through operational performance alone. How large a gap is tolerated is not known from the outside, because eMAG does not publish the formula.

The right pricing strategy for the Buy Box

The right strategy is not to have the lowest price, but to have the best price-to-performance ratio. Concretely: track the total price of the other sellers on the listing (not just the shelf price), compare yourself with them taking your feedback and SLA scores into account, and adjust the price to the minimum level needed to stay competitive — no lower. If you have a better feedback score than the competition, you can try to hold a higher price and a better margin. 4pricing covers the price side of that calculation: it reads prices from the product pages you add by link, on scheduled checks, and proposes a recommended price on your configured strategy (for example below the cheapest competitor by a percentage you choose, or at the median), respecting your cost floor. The recommended price is applied after your approval, and nothing is written to eMAG: the update is made by you or by your system. Feedback and SLA scores stay something you read from your own seller panel.

What 4pricing actually tracks from this picture

  • At every scheduled check you see whether you are the cheapest among the pages you track — the price signal that usually precedes losing the Buy Box.
  • You get an alert after the check that detects a tracked competitor undercut you or that you lost the lowest-price position (in the app or by webhook), with the product and shop that triggered it. Checks run at scheduled intervals, not in real time.
  • You see the price history we keep, per product and per shop. The Buy Box position itself is not read by the platform — it stays something you check in your own seller panel.

When it is better not to fight for the Buy Box

Not every listing is worth fighting for the Buy Box. If the minimum margin needed to stay competitive is below the product's profitability threshold, it is better to stay in secondary offers and optimize other products. Also, if eMAG itself sells on the listing as a retailer, your chances may be lower — eMAG does not publish its rules, so it is worth testing on concrete cases without assuming the outcome. In cases with no realistic chance, energy is better invested in products where competition is between third-party sellers.
